Hi idematown,
ReplyDeleteWhat I mentioned above has been working for me. A few questions for you.
1. What is the page that you get when you go to the "redirect_from" domain (www.myotherdomain.com)?
2. How long has it been since you registered these domains?
The eNom DNS configurations are a bit flaky in my experience. I noticed that sometimes, deleting the newly added records, logging out, and then re-adding them back makes all the difference. You might want to give it a shot. Delete the 2 new records you added, save, log out, log back in, add those 2 records again and see whether it helps.
Also note that this redirect is a 302 redirect. If you want a 301 redirect, see my next post that is going to come within a couple days.
BTW, I'm not an expert, but I'll try to help as much as I can with what I know.
Good luck.
wish i could figure this out. not working.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It works.
ReplyDeleteHELLO!
ReplyDeleteI spent all day looking for a solution, and I am glad I did not give up!
It works!!!
I am not sure if this helps, but make sure all other Host Names with "@" are deleted (they usually have an IP # for under address). Make sure any host names with "www" are deleted as well.
Then Save.
Then edit and fill in all that is published above. :)
This really works
DeleteThanks for pointing this out. I've updated the blog post to add this information.
DeleteThanks, Burke for your inputs. I found out recently that with another domain registrar (namecheap.com), the "www" creates problems in Google Apps authentication. I had to remove that (Step 5) and just use "@" (Step 4). Somehow, it works fine for me on eNom.
ReplyDeleteAwesome !!! thanks for sharing this information
ReplyDeleteIt's January 2012 and this still works. Thanks, Harwinder. Burke, your points seem valid, although I found there is still a lag (about 5-10 minutes) from the time I changed the settings to when they actually took effect, which is what Harwinder stated would happen.
ReplyDeleteHello Eric,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback. Yes, it does work. In fact, I referred to these steps last week for one of my other blogs.
I'm glad I had documented these steps on a blog and not somewhere on a personal cheat, and helped a few more folks out there.
Have a great 2012!
With Go Daddy you just log into your domain and type in the new Blogspot.com url you want to redirect to and you don't have to do anything else. It does the rest for you. I was able to do this to use my old Go Daddy domain on one of my Blogger blogs,I recently deleted and Go daddy redirected the Url to my other active blog. As I did not like my old blog url very much even though that too was a custom url.
ReplyDeleteBut with Enom it is not that simple and does not work.
But when you buy a domain through Blogger you do not get to choose you domain host. So you could get Enom or you could get Go Daddy. I think that when we buy a domain through Blogger. That they should let us choose if we want to be with Go Daddy or Enom. As Go Daddy is more user friendly.I cannot work out the settings on Enom at all the redirects with Enom did not work. Andrea.
Thank, stupid Google shows a load of crap found u in blekko
ReplyDeleteDear friend,i have tried it but dont work in my blog. I registerd www.meromaya.net and now i want to redirect it to www.bishnuko.blogspot.com, i do same like you explan but it dosent redirect, what can i do? Please help me.
ReplyDeletehello, someone help me
ReplyDeleteI've followed the steps and it worked, but is there a way to redirect t0 (www.myotherdomain.com) and still have (www.mydomain.com) in the address bar?
Hello! I need help. I just changed by custom blogger domain name to a new domain and I tried these steps and it is still not redirecting. PLEASE help me. Trying to redirect www.chasingoursunshine.com to www.chasingsunshineblog.com.
ReplyDeleteThanks guy! It took three days for me to find some useful information that actually helped!
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned that this is a 302 redirect..
ReplyDeletePlease tell me how to make the 301 redirect because that is SEO friendly
this is 302 redirect plz give us 301 search engine friendly redirect artiocle
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much! But I'm wondering, does this affect email sent to the original domain? As an example: Suppose I redirect a.com to b.com. If I send an email to ricky@a.com, does it get redirected to b.com somehow? I hope not, because I haven't configured my mail server on my new site yet.
ReplyDeleteFor a 301 redirection:
ReplyDeleteRecord Type: "URL Redirect"Address (which will be the target)
add:?redir_mode=301 at the end of your url,
for example: your target url is foobar.com/snafu then add: foobar.com/snafu/?redir_mode=301
if you already have a query string like this one
for example: foobar.com/snafu/?lang=fr then use "&"
like the following: foobar.com/snafu/?lang=fr&redir_mode=301
Use this url redirection checker:http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/
I hope this helps

Thank you! Phew, it's been a long frustrating night that, thanks to this post, finally ended in success :) Didn't work at first, so I did the logging out/logging back in, etc. as mentioned in comments above AND waited 5-10 minutes, and it finally worked. The steps in the post were all right on. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI guess it was a good decision to post the information on the blog and help a few folks out there :)
DeleteI used URL Frame instead of URL Redirect...from the enom help:
ReplyDelete"URL Frame URL Frame is similar to URL Redirect except that instead of redirecting the client to your web page, the web page is displayed in a frame from our web server. With this method the client's browser will display your domain name (for example: www.mydomain.com) while they are using your site and not the actual URL to your page (for example: home.infospace.com/chris33")."
Thanks for this help!!!!!!! I love when the internet contains useful info :)
THANK YOU!!! I have searched high and low for help with this problem. You had my domain redirected in 5 minutes. Thank you for sharing.
